About Us — Mattress Store in Hickory, NC

Metcalf’s Hibernation Station started with an idea in 2017. When Michael returned home to Granite Falls after living in Oregon for some years, he needed mattresses and furniture. Like so many people before him, Michael found out that hopping around mattress stores in Hickory wasn’t much fun at all.

After some serious thought, he decided maybe he could do it better. Why not make buying a mattress in Hickory fun and enjoyable? With the help of some family with a local mattress factory out in Taylorsville,  Michael opened his own mattress store in Hickory.

With a shoestring budget and only word-of-mouth and Facebook for marketing, Michael slowly built a name for himself. The way he saw it, all he had to do was give people the best mattress buying experience they’d ever had.

A tall order? Sure, but Michael figured if he could deliver top-notch quality and value and a no-pressure approach — people would come back and they’d tell their friends and family. If he could keep that going, eventually he’d have a solid customer base. 

Flash forward to today — Metcalf’s Hibernation Station is doing well. We’re proud to have excellent reviews on both Google and Facebook. We were even awarded Best of Catawba Valley by the Hickory Daily Record several years in a row!

And now, we’ve finally got our very own spankin’ new website, which we’re also very proud of. But we will never forget that it was the customers we LOVE who made it all possible. They helped bring this dream to life. For that, you have our undying gratitude.
